In 2020, not long after the Park View Canal Kayak Launch was closed, due to high bacteria in the water, and a no contact advisory was enacted, Omar began working with FIU Investigative journalism student team led by Valentina Palm.
After months of investigating, puling records requests and interviews, the story "Miami Beach's Dirty Little Secret: The Park View Canal", was published.
Valentina Palm went on to win the prestigious, nationally acclaimed, "Hearst Investigative Journalism Program Award" for her story, and won a scholarship for her 2 part story on the Park View Island Canal.
