Park View Canal Water Quality Restoration Project

Date
April 2023
Omar has been the strongest and only candidate that has been involved directly in ensuring the City of Miami Beach funds this important project, that affects the entire North Beach Community.
Often, Resource Managers in government don't seem as motivated to fix non-tangible issues, rather opting to prioritize tangible items, which are easier to see, and better perceived by the public, although not as important.
A core part of Omar's mission through the Park View Island Sustainable Association from day one has been to build "bridges of friendship and collaborative communication", with City Hall to work on the really difficult and tough issues. Such as the Park View Island Canal bacteria contamination / pollution.
Over the past 5 years, Omar has worked closely with the Environment and Sustainability Department, and Park Department, scheduling meetings, walkthroughs of the affected area, water sampling, and following up on a weekly basis not only with city departments, but also writing emails to city commissioners and executive staff to ensure progress was being made.
Most importantly, Omar has been instrumental in the City fully funding the Park View Canal Water Restoration Project, with over $8 million dollars currently set aside for dredging, installation of filtration systems in the 82 acre area affecting the canal, including Hydrodynamic separators, Vortex filtration systems and other innovative ways that promise to resolve this problem once and for all.
